Many parents and teachers tweet and FB me asking about how to enhance social skills in children. You all know that I am a fan of KIMOCHIS the toy and curriculum that teaches social-emotional intelligence. Well, I just got a new app that teaches social skills. Here is the story:
As pediatric speech and language pathologists and occupational therapists, Meghan, Karen, and Jill have used a collaborative approach for years. They have shared a passion for designing and co-leading groups to enhance social cognition in young children.
Their Social Adventures App was developed following many years of helping children navigate the often rough waters of social relationships. Inspired by parent and community requests for more information about how to run successful social cognition groups, the Social Adventures App functions primarily as a resource for adults who wish to provide children with enriching activities that promote social engagement.
Although many of the children who benefit from these activities have been diagnosed with social challenges, the activities, catch phrases, visuals, and in-app game have been found to be appealing and useful for children who are typically developing as well. The areas addressed within the app can be remembered by the acronym, IMAGINE, and include Initiating interactions, Maintaining interactions, Advocating and negotiating, Getting regulated, Interpreting non-verbals, Negotiating space, and Experiencing humor. You can find more information and resources on the web site, www.all4mychild.com and we look forward to having you join the adventure!
